The Nagas Of Guardia (Orange Nagas)
Near the region of North Haber is a region called Guardia. It is so named because of its residents, who are extremely defensive in all respects. They are a race of Nagas, one with orange scales. This, again, befits their personalities. Orange Magic is that which is geared towards direct defense; shields, force fields, traps, that sort of thing.
The Orange Nagas are extremely defensive by nature. Under few circumstances will they ever actually attack a foe personally. It does not sit well with them, to directly attack someone. This is not because they claim to think that violence is wrong, like others, nor do they claim that they don’t like getting their hands dirty, nor that it is for self-preservation as the Coonsks do. It is not really for any particular reason that they don’t like to attack, according to many of them. It’s just part of their genetic code, one could say.
They do not hesitate to participate in Third World Wars, though individuals to hesitate to go out into them. Thus, at any given conflict, there will only be one or two Orange Nagas present, casting defensive spells on all of those who are deemed to be on their side, but focusing on their own safety. A notable exception is the fourth battle of the great Stone Rush War, at which a battalion of upwards of fifty Orange Nagas was present. None carried weapons, but all together were casting a specially designed spell. We can go into that later, though.
The Orange Nagas have more magical prowess than only four of the other known species of Nagas. The Blue Nagas are directly behind them, primarily because they find magic to be dishonest. Orange Nagas do not agree; they think that people should use every advantage that they have to do whatever it is they want to do. They just don’t have very powerful pineal glands compared to the other four known races of Nagas. They make up for this by having the strongest scales of any Nagas in The Third World. Most ordinary weapons cannot pierce them, and a number of enchanted ones can’t either. Their scales do not continue onto a certain area on their underside, the part that they use to move forward, though it does continue onto the underside of their torso, which many mistakenly believe is the front.
The Orange Nagas have a tenuous alliance with the Blue Nagas, who live very near to them. It is only tenuous on the end of the Orange Nagas; the Blue Nagas are happy to be allied with them, and anyone else who wants to ally with them. The Orange Nagas do not trust this, in a way that almost resembles the mistrust of the Coonsks. The Orange Nagas also do not trust the Coonsks, despite an annual (according to the Coonsk calendar) conference between the more courageous Coonsks and the more diplomatically enabled Orange Nagas to exchange information. A growing number of Orange Nagas prescribe to the religion of T.H.E.M.-fearing. The Orange Nagas are generally xenophobic, and mistrusting of other races. To display this, they have giant walls all around their territory. Huge, sixty foot high walls. Their territory is also bordered by a Time Zone border. The walls are sometimes invisible from the surrounding Time Zones due to the temporal difference, and so trying to cross into Guardia is a very risky business if you don’t know exactly what you’re doing. Many broken noses have resulted. Orange Nagas, unlike the Coonsks, do generally trust each other. They still feel safer if they build defences around their homes, though, and so a visitor to Guardia may be confused by the huge walls around Guardia, the smaller walls surrounding each city, the even smaller walls surrounding neighborhoods, and the Naga-high walls surrounding each home approximately where the fence would be in a normal suburban city.
The Orange Nagas have sparked the mistrust of many other societies, what with being so xenophobic and seemingly plotting. The Coonsks have not had this problem, as they seem generally harmless. The Orange Nagas, however, have been targeted in attacks and attempted wars numerous times. However, only one attack has ever actually reached the outer walls of Guardia. The Orange Nagas have an extensive espionage network, despite their personal lack of skill at espionage. This network consists primarily of operatives from the race of Ultraviolet Nagas and another spy-inclined race of mole-like creatures known as the Tali. They send word back to the Orange Naga government when another nation, race, or society is planning an attack, allowing the Orange Nagas to discreetly convince the Blue Nagas to preemptively strike the threatening force. The single attack that made it through did so due to some very well shrouded planning on the part of King Bernard the 57th of Farber. However, the force was destroyed by the unexpected collapse of the section of they wall they were attacking, right onto them. The Orange Nagas were more surprised than anyone at this collapse, and, though glad for its timing in collapsing, soon after burned the estates of the architects and rebuilt the entire wall out of a stronger substance, slightly farther in. They never bothered to remove the old wall, and the space between it is now a favorite spot for criminals on the run to hide. Agents of the law have a very hard time getting in generally. The outer wall continues to collapse, though, making trying to enter Guardia without knowing what part of the wall you’re walking into even more dangerous. The Orange Nagas do no tmind this, and have since reimbursed the survivors of the burnings of the architects’ estates greatly.
