The Exceedingly Brave Nagas of North Haber (Blue Nagas)

In the North of the Haber region, which is near the general center of the Farber continent, there lives a race of snake men. They are one of several species of snake men, all of whom are very similar physically, though psychologically quite varied. They are one of the few nearly-humanoid species that can be found in The Third World, and that is counting the Gods as a species, despite their apparently low numbers. Also notable, though the natives of The Third World have no idea of this, the races of snake men are the only reptilian species in The Third World. The Nagas-the official name of all snake men species-of the North Haber region also have very low numbers, though this is not true of all the other Naga species. These particular Nagas consider themselves the most powerful of all races on The Third World, save for the Gods. Despite their acceptance of their weakness compared to the Gods, they believe that they can have the potential to become more powerful, and thus spawn a number of short-lived deities. Due to these facts, they are considered by the entirety of The Third World to be, at the very least, the bravest of all races. Even some of the Gods respect them for this, though it doesn’t stop them from crushing whichever Nagas of North Haber they find going against their own mysterious plans. This race of Nagas continues to live as it does, though, earning them the distinguishing racial name of the Exceedingly Brave Nagas.
Physically, the characteristic that tends to differentiate the species of Naga from each other is the color of their scales. The Exceedingly Brave Nagas, for example, have scales of blue. Magically knowledgeable individuals and institutions believe that this is, in part, an indication that they are magically enhanced in some way. It fits their personalities: they certainly are strong, and quite confident, and magic that generates blue light-called Blue Magic by scholars-is offensive magic. It is consistent with other races of Naga as well; they tend to have personalities that match the magic that generates the color of their scales. For example, the Purple Nagas that reside primarily near the Harpies’ home region tend to be doctors, just as Purple Magic is used for healing purposes. There are also nine known species of Naga, which accounts for every known color of magic save concentrated/natural magic. All of this suggests to magical scholars that perhaps the Naga races were created in times past by the Gods or another force, for some reason or another. Coonsk magical scholars in particular believe that the Nagas are the foot soldiers, likely witting, of T.H.E.M. Some magical scholars also conjecture that there must be or have been at some point a tenth race of Black Nagas, the originators of all other Naga races, at least genetically. Paranoiacs, like the Coonsks, believe that the Black Nagas, being imbued with natural magic, would not have allowed their species to be split intentionally, meaning that there would have been a great war between them and whoever “created” the other nine species. They point to stories from the Legend of Rag ‘n’ Rock involving attacks by dark, slithering shadows.
As usual, we have digressed from our central point. But really, it is a good digression, as the Exceedingly Brave Nagas of North Haber are not really all the multi-faceted. They are not particularly intelligent, but nor are they entirely fools. They are, in a way, childlike. Part of the reason they are childlike is that few of them survive past childhood, because the rite of passage into adulthood involves leaving their hometown for one month in order to prove their courage and strength by confronting the strange little things which hop up and down across the landscape, frightening everything else in the world save for the Exceedingly Brave Nagas of North Haber. Upon returning from this mission, which only a small fraction did, they were declared adults and allowed to participate in mating rituals. Both males and females go on this mission, leaving the population approximately even in both sexes.
Obviously, these Blue Nagas are a warrior race, one of a number in The Third World. Unlike the other warrior races, however, the Exceedingly Brave Nagas of North Haber are not at all xenophobic. They welcome all races into their midst, as they absolutely adore visitors. They also hire themselves out readily as bodyguards, though many heads of state are reluctant to hire them, as they will attack what they perceive to be the enemies of themselves or their employers at such a sign of aggression as bowing down out of respect. They are always very proud of themselves when they do such things, believing that they have done a very good job. They also readily admit that they are not the smartest of races, in general.
The Blue Nagas are the simplest of all the Naga races, their only real dynamic characteristic being their xenophilia. The Orange Nagas who also live in the North Haber region, in a fairly unsteady alliance with the Blue ones, are much more dynamic, though perhaps less unique. They will be the next race of Nagas we discuss, though the next species detailed will be the Bovates and their tendency to be moral deviants.
